Timothy R. Thies was born in Boone, Iowa, and at age eight he was introduced to the works of Andrew and N.C. Wyeth, which triggered a lifelong fascination with art.

He studied at the Colorado Institute of Art, but his painting career began in earnest with a scholarship to study with Nelson Shanks at the National Academy Museum and School of Fine Art in New York City. His awards include Best of Show-Founder’s Award from The Bennington Center for The Arts, and the Grand Prize Award from American Artist Magazine’s national Floral Competition. International Artist Magazine highlighted one of his paintings in its Master Painters of The World Showcase.

He has studied with Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, and Len Chmiel, and at the Loveland Academy of Art. His paintings have been featured in Art Talk, Cape Cod Life, The Artist’s Magazine, Southwest Art, Wild Life Art Magazine, and International Artist Magazine.

Thies’ paintings have been exhibited in the Attleboro Museum, Harvard Club of Boston, Copley Society of Boston, Colorado Governor’s Invitation Show, Southern Vermont Arts Center, and Bennington Center For the Arts, and Boston International Fine Art Show. His works are in the collections of The Cape Museum of Fine Art, Chrysler Corp., W.L. Gore and Assoc., BioElectric Company, and Hollister Corporation among others.
